Motivation Part 1

Im only going to do a quick post today and it’s probably more for my benefit than anyone else.

This year, as most years go, I made some New Years resolutions and decided 2017 was going to be my year! And in keeping with that I’ve been inspired to do some reading. ย My cute sister in law, Karina brought to my attention a book called “The Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod. She mentioned she was going to read it to get more motivated to get up early and get stuff done.

Ok so if you know me you know I’m not a morning person. Ask my work out partner (I’m usually the one to cancel) or my kids, my hubby, my parents, my friends…. There are lots of people who can account for my not so smooth, I’d rather be asleep mornings.

But here’s the thing. I really want to be a morning person. You know those annoying, jump out of bed ready to conquer the day people. I hate those people! ๐Ÿ™„ But only because I’m not one of them. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I actually admire them and want to be invited into their elusive club ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™ (And really if you are one of these amazing people I don’t hate you. I’m actually married to one and he’s awesome! ๐Ÿ’ช)

So why am I writing this today? I’m almost done reading “My Miracle Morning” and I just had a convo with that same cute sister in law. I’m feeling motivated and ready to try this out. She promised to be my accountability person ๐Ÿ˜ƒย cuz I know I’ll need one! And I’ve been adding to my pile of motivational books. I thought that if I memorialize this in my blog it will add to my motivation and accountability ๐Ÿ˜‰ย If you are reading this you can count yourself as one of my accountability people! ๐Ÿ‘Š

In fact I’m hoping for some ideas, inspiration and encouragement! I’m adding a picture of my pile of inspiration but I would love to hear what motivates you and where you find your inspiration to improve yourself.

It’s Wednesday, August 30th (my youngest sons birthday is today! Happy 15th Trey! ๐Ÿ˜˜) and I’m making tomorrow my first miracle morning. Wish me luck! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And please don’t be shy. Share your thoughts and suggestions below. I’ll be watching for them! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks for taking a minute to read my post!

Saturday Morning Estate Saling

Is saling a word? Haha Probably not, but today I went Estate Saling with my friend Lisa. She loves old homes maybe more than I do. We’ve been planning to go to an Estate Sale together for a while and one came up this weekend in an old home in downtown Salt Lake City. So she and I got up early (for a Saturday) and drove up together to a lovely older home on South Temple street.

Right away, just from the staircase to the front door, we could see this home was going to be fun to walk through.

We got to the Estate Sale a few minutes early so we waited out front for the doors to open. A man came up and stood behind us and asked if it had started yet. We told him the doors weren’t open yet and he then told us he grew up in this home! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค— He was so excited to go inside and see it again. He told us he hadn’t been inside for years and years. He was a child in the 1960’s when he’d lived there. As we walked through the home he pointed out items that were there when it was his family’s home. It was fun for us to get a bit of history of this house as we shopped the Estate Sale.

As you already know I love old houses, and this one had a lot of the character that makes old homes so appealing. I love the tall pillars as you enter the home. And then there’s the beautiful staircase and original fireplace.

This home had so many arched windows. I jokingly asked if the windows were for sale! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sitting in the entryway was a beautiful tri-fold room divider. We came on the last day of the Eatate Sale so I can only imagine how elegant this old mansion was before most of the furniture was sold and removed.

I picked up just a few small pieces from this sale.

So many little treasures! Part of what made today so fun was spending time with a friend who loves this as much as I do. We are already making plans to go again! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks for taking a peek at my blog. Hope you enjoy the picture of this lovely home!

$10 Antique Book Find

Today I got to spend the afternoon with my daughter who is about to graduate from High School. She went with me to run an errand and we decided to make a lunch date out of it. After lunch and a little bonding we decided to stop at a thrift store that was close to the restaurant. My cute 18 year old daughter likes to go thrift shopping with me! ๐Ÿ˜Š She gets almost as excited as I do when we find a treasure at the thrift shop, yard sale or estate sale. And today we got lucky!! After finding some cheap movies and a few of The Office seasons we took a stroll over to the glass display cases to see what was there. There were some fun old and not so old items on display but I think we ended up with the oldest item there.

This book was in this bag so I wasn’t sure what it was but I was surely curious. So I asked the cute lady working there if she could open the display case for me. I pulled the book out and I could see right away why it was kept in the bag. It’s falling apart. So I carefully started to go through the pages to see what was on the inside.

I discovered a few pages had pictures glued to them and I found a flower that had been placed in the book to be pressed, I assumed. I also found the name of the book. The Plays of Philip Massinger with notes by W. Gifford. This is Philip Massinger

He was born in the late 1500’s and apparently his plays were rather popular back in his day. But this book is not as old as him. I found a few dates in the book leading me to believe this book was published in the mid 1800’s. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ There was also a signature in the book that was fading and turning brown. I couldn’t make out the name but…I found another clue! Yes I am a detective! ๐Ÿ˜‰ On the inside of the cover of the book I found a small oval piece of paper that was also glued into the book with a name. A.V. Lesley M.D. New Castle, Del. ย So, back to the signature in the book…

It’s a match!!!! I know I’m a huge nerd!! ๐Ÿค“ In more ways than one, but this is definitely one of them! But seriously who wouldn’t be excited about finding these little connections! And there’s more!! Thanks to google I found a tid bit of information about A.V. Lesley!! (Do you like all my -> !!!!! <- ๐Ÿ˜‰) His full name is Allen Voorhees Lesley and he built a big old beautiful house in, that’s right, New Castle, Delaware. He built his house in 1855 and passed away in 1881.

Soooo if that is his signature in his book, and I tend to believe it is, this book is like 150 years old!!!! (More exclamation points) ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค— (and some jazz hands)

As you can see I ended up buying the book. I don’t know what it is about finding something old and holding it in your hands but I feel like I’m touching a bit of history. This book has seen better days and I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do with it but I’m excited to own it. And all for $10!!!! You never know what you will find at the local thrift shop.

Do you thrift shop, yard sale or estate sale? What’s your favorite find? Please leave a comment below and tell me about it. And if you live close by let’s go shopping!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I’ll bring the exclamation points and jazz hands ๐Ÿค— !!

Thanks for taking a look at my blog. I really appreciate it!

Estates Sale Saturday Find

I dragged my hubby out on a Saturday morning and made him go to an Estate Sale. We ended up at the cutest house in the cutest older neighborhood in Salt Lake. (I’m ready to move. I’m already working on my husband ๐Ÿ˜‰) It was the 3rd day of this Estate Sale so I am certain I missed out on seeing some amazing pieces of furniture and knick knacks. But the house itself was worth the drive. Stained glass windows and rounded doors. Seriously they don’t make em like they use to. I โค๏ธ old homes. LOVE THEM!!

Anyhoo I did find a couple of fun pieces.

This darling little drop leaf table on casters and chair where still there and waiting for me to take them home. Because it was day 3 I got them at a good price.

More Estate and Yard Sale shopping is in my future.ย Are you an estate/yard/garage sale shopper? What’s your favorite find? I would love to hear your tips and tricks to finding good deals so please leave a comment.

And thanks for stopping by! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The New Year is here!

Are you a New Years Resolution goal setter? I am! I love the beginning of a new year. I will admit to not always following through on my New Years Resolutions but some of them have helped me be a better me. This year I am setting my sights high and setting several goals for myself. They won’t be big changes but things I have already been working on and things I need to work on, but may have procrastinated. I happen to be very good at that. Procrastinating. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย For the most part I want to be a more well rounded person. So many of the more popular goals will match up with mine. Be healthier. More organized. More spiritual. This will be my week to write it all down and set some small goals to get me where I want to be. To start the year out right I will be doing a health challenge with some friends that hopefully gets me to eat more vegetables. If you have any good veggie recipes send them my way please!

I started this blog to post about some of the projects I work on around the house and pieces of furniture I sell. But I want to add to it and post about some of the projects I want to take on to improve myself as well. Last year was a crazy year in our home. Not a lot of bad (thankfully) just a lot of changes. This year will bring a lot of changes for me and my family as well. Tomorrowย we will be taking our oldest son to Idaho where he will be starting college. Last year he returned home after spending 2 years serving a mission for the LDS church. And our only daughter will graduate from High School this summer. So more college plans in the works. My youngest will start High School in the fall. Life never really seems to slow down and I am realizing that if I don’t make goals, write them down and give them importance I get caught up with all the things that go on around me and don’t give them priority. So my first New Years Resolution is to write it down.

I have also been looking for inspiration to get me motivated. I found a fun New Years Resolution quote today that said the following: Be more awesome than last year! haha I love it! So I am going to remember the things I accomplished last year and work from there to be MORE AWESOME!!

What are your New Years Resolutions? And how do you stay motivated? Share your thoughts in the comment section. I am always inspired by others stories and ideas and I would love to hear from you.

Happy New Years to everyone and as always thanks for stopping by!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Until you try

A good friend of mine gave me a an apple a day calendar and each day there is an inspirational quote included. Today’s inspirational quote:

IMG_3876

Very fitting for my day! Today was the grand opening of Drab 2 Fab Paint & Decor where I have my own booth! And here it is!

A few months ago I decided to try my hand at selling chalk painted furniture! I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t sure about this and it took me a while to convince myself to do it. Actually I had a few friends and family members help me with a lot of encouragement and help. I’m a procrastinator to the core and so this was a big decision and a scary one for me to make. But today is the big day and so far so good! So that little saying by Henry James – Until you try, you don’t know what you can do fits right into my day! I still have a lot to learn and a lot to do to try and make this little venture work but I made it past the hard part – deciding to do it!! So glad I made the decision because I love doing this and fingers crossed I will get to for a while. It’s an adventure for sure. In fact today after going to the store for the big grand opening I talked my hubby into going to a local thrift shop just to look around. Never go to the local thrift shop to “just look around” in your husbands Honda Civic or this may be you:

Yes that is an old door I found for $10 and couldn’t leave without and that is me trying to drive a stick shift with the seat pushed ALL the way up!! haha We made it home without incident so it was all good!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyhoo good day for me all the way around! This is going under my “gotta do be done Projects” cuz “Until you try, you don’t know what you can do”

Thanks for stopping by
